Masafa Arts started as a youth group in 2009 and registered in 2013 year with the ministry Heritage and culture. It was founded and operated within Kabete constituency. The group, upon its formation began championing contentious issues within the society using the most refined tools within the youth; Talent. This was through creation of a platform for expressing messages to the community via artistic pieces like, skits, songs, plays, mime and even campaigns. This saw the birth of Home Based Theatre (HBT) that saw Masafa extend its reach and means. as directed by our Vision and Mission statements.
Masafa Arts with the advancement of time and redefinition of art was registered as Masafa Arts Production with a key focus on production of artistic works and nurturing talent within and without our community. Masafa has become renowned in the County and beyond especially due to outstanding performance in both local and national events.
Among the Masafa’s notable milestones include, 2010: Engaged in planning and facilitating of theatre for development- Home based theatre (HBT), 2011: Won 2011 Creative Champions Festivals, Awarded youth fund 50,000/= successfully managed and repaid the Loan. Emerged as 1st runners up in Kiambu County Gate Festivals. Won the best Actor, Actress and Best Script Award.2012: Emerged the best play, dance and solo verse in Provincial competition, Gate Festivals 2012. Reached out to more than 10,000 youths in HIV/AIDS intervention programs.
Emerged national champions in NOPE festivals. Awarded kshs. 350,000/= on a project dubbed “behavior change and communication program” by Constituency Aids Control Committee (CACC) successfully implemented and managed. Enrolled 5 members with slam TV academy for a course in music video & film production.2013: Awarded youth fund 100,000/=LOAN successfully managed and fully repaid the Loan. and on 2nd November 2013 the group established a professional public address system as an Income Generating Activity (I.G.A) for the group.
